I am currently a 2nd grade Language Arts teacher at Barcroft Elementary School.   We utilize Word Study and small reading groups to help students become proficient readers.  We also work with the Lucy Caulkins series for writing and grammar.   I believe that every child can learn and I am dedicated to ensuring that I do my best to make that happen.

In 2006 I completed the teaching program at the University California, Santa Barbara.   It was a year-long program of intense University work coupled with elementary classroom experience.  It has provided me with a strong background in elementary teaching theories and practices.

Some of my 4th graders at Roosevelt Elementary School hard at work!

In addition to teaching Language Arts, I also substitute teach in the afternoons.  This provides me with more experience in many different classrooms and with all elementary age groups.  Substitute teaching has also improved my behavior management techniques and allowed me to learn even more about what other teachers are doing in their classrooms.  It has been a very valuable experience.
